This is how she looked when I started taking her apart. Very sad! Needed 15+ plates and a sill welding in once I started screwdriver-poking...... Attachments:

Trial fit of the mk1 grille, moustache and bumper. All the brightwork is stainless steel from Minisport (makes sense in the long term)...... Attachments:

Starting to take shape. Only wiring in the dash and front headlights and indicators left. Along with refitting the glass, bolting the doors on, wiring the cibies, fog lamp, reverse lamp, front bumper, overiders, passenger's seat and subframe, etc etc blah blah!! Oh my God. What have I gone and done?? Attachments:

If the prep work is good and the primer coats are good then the top coats can only be the same. It doesn't make sense to spend up to a grand for final finish when you can do it yourself. Its just the conviction and the balls you need! You can do it!!

Thanks coedy! The bootlid is a single skin fibreglass jobbie which is pretty poor quaility I have to say. The bonnet, on the other hand, is a genuine Curly fibreglass item which is top draw. Most of the bits have come from fleabay but all the brightwork and mechanical bits are from reputable mini dealers from around the country. MiniSport, Huddersfield Spares, Min-its, and MRA. Its really satisfying to see her coming together and I can't wait to see the reaction she'll get when she's on the road! I've got a couple of mates who are building minis also, so there'll be a few more on the welsh roads soon!
