Well I've no updated recently... so these are dated paragraths... 3rd Aprilwell, it won't tick over correctly, my new oil pressure pipe doesn't fit my gauge, I can't get my upper ball joints in, and worse of all, when it did tick over, plonked my foot on the clutch, and the engine dies..... :xxx:ing Minis... 4th AprilWell yet again, I am face to face with my bloody flywheel.... A friend from my clubs forum, used to race Minis, and mention had I "spaced" the clutch correctly. After he explianing what it means by spacing, and a quick glance on Minispares, it seems I somehow, never knew about spacing clutches :shy: But anyways, after the check, it would seem, I've been running the clutch far, far, far tooooo tight! The picture below, is the gap I need to space up... I was bolting the straps, directly onto the back plate, so making the clutch, already too tight, and this would be why I couldn't slip the clutch too.... One horn... Two horn... 5th AprilI've sorted that out now, needed a small 1mm spacer on each horn. Refitted everything, set up the stop nut etc... started fitting the starter solinoid and the batt cable fell out of the connection, so I am calling it a night atm, back is killing me. So tomorrow, start up and suck n see if it works. But since refitting, the clutch does feel alot nicer now April 6thWell, those last few tweaks seem to of done the trick Spacing the clutch out by 1mm, and tweaking the C clip on the crank tail, Wet n drying the splines slightly, and making sure the whole lot is smooth going on and off.... Built the car all back up today, got it to fire, sounds soooooooo smooth now and sounds a little more powerful too. But as it was ticking over, I tryed the clutch....... ..... I just need to fit my wheels and I am on the road again

I've just read your previous posts again and as i read it you've put spacers on the lugs of the pressure plate. In effect what's happening now is the clutch plate is being held off the friction face of the flywheel. Any adjustments to the spacing should be done on the Flywheel spacers. Nothing should be added or taken away from the Pressure plate lugs. As a matter of interest, what clutch plate was the previous owner using.

Orange, same as I'm using.
Looks like time to strip it again, and take away the spacers...
