Tried original again still no reverse, feels sloppy,& grindy (not with engine running) anyone have any ideas other than swapping the selector?/ Sorry for quality if typing but um on,my phone

Not very clued up on the new fangled rod change system, but I'll have a go. Did the gearchange work ok when it was in the donor car.? Has an errant bolt, nut or washer fallen into the housing.? Can't think of anything else that would cause your problems unless it's the actual selectors in the gearbox itself.

It worked on the donor car. It worked after fitting (drove it around the block and got reverse etc). Then went to put my quickshift back on and could only get 1st and 2nd but figured out why (lost a curclip on it and the nylon ball fell off). fixed that (new curclip..) and can get 1st 2nd 3rd 4th. but no lift reverse. (all the tests were done stationary with engine off by the way) Got annoyed and fitted the standard one back so I can at least drive it and the gear changes feel as though the selector is full of gravel. gearbox is fine though. Tried the fixed quickshift again and exact same thing. Very odd... Im thinking maybe the original curclip is still in the selector housing and has jammed me out of reverse, but I cant see it or find it fishing about with a screwdriver. And I cant remove the inspection plate with it in-situ because the rubber mounts flex too much when your trying to get the really tight screws loosened off... Thinking im going to just have to whip off the selector, fit my quickshift to the one off the other engine while its out (easier to troubleshoot as I can see the rods moving then) and then jack the car up and fling on the entire thing all together... I hate getting under jacked up cars...

you could get some drive on ramps if it makes you feel safer bud.

I dont have any experience of that sort of problem either coedy but your repair logic sounds good to me. NEVER EVER work under a car that is only just jacked up. As DogsB said..... use car ramps or axle stands. Concrete blocks work very well too !!! ;D Good luck and let us know how its going. jd

I think we've got ramps here...we did have anyway - we've got plenty of axle stands tho, the guy next door saw us working on the car & gave us 2 sets & a spare jack!! ;D nice man!

Turns out I had completely mangled the mount so it was out of shape and holding the selector housing at an angle. as a result the bar would never have engaged reverse. Back to standard stick for now. need to find a new curclip for the quicky Its riding high like a monster truck now (compared to what it was)... guessing my old cones had collapsed as well as all my shocks being dead...

Urgh I just cant get used to the standard at all.. once I get a new curclip the quicky is going back in. the standard one has soooo much play... can hardly tell its in gear...
Ummm as far as I am aware it just the welding in the boot? Going to be a pain though... subby out again ¬_¬

Glad you got it sorted. Not so glad to hear the rear subby has to come off again. At least the nuts n bolts should undo easily.
